Soccer Betting Lines

12/11/2006 - London, England (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Sunday's 1-1 draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge leaves Arsenal a whopping 18 points behind league-leaders Manchester United, all but assuring Gunners a third consecutive season without a Premiership title.

Arsenal's last championship season, 2003-04, was a memorable one that saw Arsene Wenger's team navigate the 38-game campaign without a loss en route to the crown. The roster from that title team was made up of experienced players such as Sol Campbell, Patrick Vieira and Dennis Bergkamp, who have since gone on to join other clubs or retire.

This leaves Thierry Henry, Kolo Toure and Gilberto to bridge the gap between that successful outfit and this year's version, which is made up of a largely youthful roster.

While Premiership rivals Chelsea and Manchester United have relied on high- priced transfers to replenish their talent, Arsenal have built quite a nice young nucleus of players who could potentially carry them back to EPL prominence.

With Henry currently on the shelf with neck and lower back issues, as well as rumors of a rift between the striker and Wenger, the Gunners are certainly prepared should anything happen to their star sniper. In addition to 23-year- old Dutchman Robin Van Persie, who has scored five goals and paired quite nicely with Henry up top in the Arsenal starting 11, the Gunners have used 22- year-old Togo international Emmanuel Adebayor effectively as a substitute. Adebayor has made eight starts this season and tallied three goals, including the match-winner against Manchester United at Old Trafford in September.

Czech midfielder Tomas Rosicky was a nice summer pick-up, but Spain's Francesc Fabregas has filled in quite nicely at the age of 19 for the departed Vieira, filling the play-making midfield role with a team-leading six assists. French midfielder Mathieu Flamini has also done well in his time on the pitch, as the 22-year-old has made five starts and scored twice, but also is a valuable substitute off the Arsenal bench.

The back line is also in good shape for years to come, with 23-year-old Ivory Coast international Emmanuel Eboue fast developing into one of the best outside backs in England and 19-year-old Johan Djourou of Switzerland playing at a high level, including a strong performance for his country in this past summer's World Cup.

The most intriguing prospect of all on the Arsenal roster is striker Theo Walcott, the 17-year-old Englishman who cracked England's World Cup roster and has exhibited a tremendous amount of pace and skill in his limited chances. With all the good young talent that Arsenal possess up top, it will be interesting to see how long it takes the young phenom to break into the starting lineup.

This collection of young players may not threaten Chelsea's quest for a third consecutive EPL title, or challenge Manchester United in its pursuit of a league crown for the first time in four years, but the experience is being gained now, and it is just a matter of time before it all pays off.

MySportsbook.com week 1 NFL lines

Now that the 2008 NFL schedule is finally out, it is only matter-of-course for lines on “Week 1” to follow.  Of course MySportsbook.com is the first to churn out odds for the NFL’s inaugural week for the upcoming season.   Expect a lot of fireworks the first Thursday night of the season as the defending champion Indianapolis Colts face off against the surprise of the 2008 season, the New Orleans Saints.  These teams were ranked #1 and #3 in the NFL respectively a season ago so a high scoring affair could be in order.  As of now, the Colts will be giving 6 points to the Saints; keep in mind the Saints were one of the better road teams last season going 6-3 SU and 7-2 ATS.  The first Monday night of the season will again provide a “double feature”. Coming off a disappointing season, the Cincinnati Bengals will look to get back to playoffs and improve their public image as they take on the AFC North favorite Baltimore Ravens.  The second game features a couple of teams that haven’t had too much success recently but each could make some noise if the NFC is as weak as it was last year as the San Francisco 49ers host the Arizona Cardinals. The most interesting game of the opening week will feature the NFC champion Bears as they hit the road to take on the NFL’s top team during last year’s regular season, the San Diego Chargers.
