Grizzlies visit Hornets, try to stave off elimination
Basketball Betting Lines
04/02/2010 -
(Sportsbook Betting Lines) - A desperate Memphis Grizzlies team hoping to live for
another day welcomes the lottery-bound New Orleans Hornets to FedEx Forum
tonight.
The Grizzlies' postseason chances are on life support, and the plug could get
pulled tonight. Memphis is seven games behind San Antonio in the Western
Conference playoff race with just eight games to play, meaning a Grizzlies
loss tonight coupled with a San Antonio win over Orlando would officially
eliminate them from the postseason party.
The Grizz are coming off a very tough 106-102 overtime loss to Dallas on
Wednesday, their second consecutive OT setback. Dirk Nowitzki scored 22 of his
28 points after halftime in that one to guide the Mavs to the win.
O.J. Mayo led Memphis with 27 points, but missed a potential game-tying three-
pointer in the final seconds of overtime. Mike Conley added 25 points while
Zach Randolph ended with 24 points and 12 boards before fouling out for the
Grizzlies, who dropped their third in a row and suffered their second straight
overtime loss.
"This year we progressed a lot as a team. Next year we wouldn't expect
anything less than the playoffs," Memphis forward Rudy Gay said afterward.
The Hornets, meanwhile, are coming off an awful loss to woeful Washington on
Wednesday. Mike Miller scored 27 points with seven rebounds and Andray
Blatche added 23 points as the Wizards snapped their franchise-record 16-game
losing streak with a 96-91 victory over New Orleans.
David West led the way for the Hornets with 18 points, but missed what would
have been a game-tying three in the closing seconds. Marcus Thornton added 15
points and Chris Paul, still getting his legs under him in an injury-plagued
season, settled for just eight points with nine assists.
Darren Collison added 14 points and Aaron Gray donated 12 for the Hornets,
who experienced a devastating low after an enormous high with a victory over
the Lakers on Monday night.
"This game was an opportunity to get a win and build on the Lakers game, but
unfortunately was a setback," said Hornets head coach Jeff Bower. "The follow-
up from the Lakers game wasn't there, and I give credit to the Wizards for
creating that,"
Memphis snapped a three-game skid in the series with a 104-100 win in the Big
Easy back on March 3.

MySportsbook.com: NBA Championship Odds
With the playoffs about two months away, the top two teams in the Western Conference are the clear cut leaders to win the NBA Championship. The Dallas Mavericks have the best record in the NBA (44-9) and have been absolutely scorching since the second week of the season. What makes the Mavs’ record more impressive is the fact that they dropped their first four games of the season. Currently they have won 17 out of their last 18 and are MySportsbook.com’s favorite (2-1) to win it all. Right behind the Mavs are the Pacific leading Phoenix Suns (39-13). Last season, the Suns lost in the Conference Finals to non-other then the Mavericks four games to two. Of course the Suns were without center Amare Stoudemire who has is averaging 19.9 PPG and 9.5 RPG since coming back from his knee injury. Unlike the Mavs, the Suns have struggled a bit lately having lost their last three and four out of their last seven. Of course the main reason for their three straight loses is due to the absence of two time MVP Steve Nash, who is out with a shoulder injury. Heads-up, the Mavs have beaten the Suns in both of their meetings this season.
In the Eastern Conference, the Pistons (32-19) are the favorites to win it all at 6-1. The addition of Chris Webber seems to have been a good move for the Pistons. Since coming over from the 76ers, Webber has averaged 13.1 PPG and 7.3 RPG and the Pistons are 11-4. Even though the defending champion Heat are currently on the playoff making cusp, they are the Eastern Conference team that is getting the most action to win it all (9-1). The fact that Shaquille O’Neal is back in the starting lineup after missing 39 games probably has something to do with this. No doubt, Shaq makes a difference when in the lineup as their winning six out of their last seven would indicate.
