Lawrence, KS (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The nation's longest homecourt winning streak
is on the line once again in Lawrence, as the top-ranked Kansas Jayhawks play
host to the Nebraska Cornhuskers in Big 12 action this evening at the Allen
Fieldhouse.
Bill Self's Jayhawks have won 21 of their 22 games thus far and brings a
seven-game win streak into this contest. Everything has not come easy for
Kansas however, as the last two games have resulted in overtime wins for the
Jayhawks, including Wednesday's 72-66 decision at Colorado. Now the team is
back in Lawrence, where it has won all 13 games this season and an impressive
54 straight overall.
Doc Sadler's Cornhuskers have a tall task at hand as they have struggled in
Big 12 play. Nebraska has dropped six of its last seven games and fell to a
miserable 1-6 in league play with Tuesday's embarrassing 76-57 home loss to
Kansas State.
Kansas holds a huge 167-71 advantage in the all-time series with Nebraska and
has won 14 straight meetings, including an 84-72 decision in Lincoln on
January 13th.
A lack of offense is without a doubt the main reason why Nebraska has
struggled to be competitive in the Big 12 this season. The team is shooting a
decent .451 from the floor, but the result is a rather pedestrian 66.4 ppg.
Scoring depth is shallow, with only Ryan Anderson currently averaging double
figures and that is only at 10.7 ppg. Anderson is also the team's top
rebounder, but is grabbing just under five caroms per game (4.9). Defensively,
the team has been much more consistent. After leading the conference in
scoring defense the last two seasons, nothing has changed in 2009-10, as the
Cornhuskers once again lead the league at a mere 61.0 ppg. That stingy defense
was taken to task last time out, as Kansas State put up 76 points on Nebraska,
the fourth most allowed this year. Redshirt freshman Jorge Brian Diaz led the
way with 13 points. Anderson chipped in with 10, but it wasn't enough to get
the 'Huskers back into the game, considering the team shot just .417 from the
floor and .571 from the free-throw line (12-of-21).
Kansas is getting it done at both ends of the court this year and the result
is a Big 12-best +21.5 scoring margin. The Jayhawks are certainly a dangerous
offensive squad, averaging 84.1 points per game thanks to scoring depth that
features four players in double figures. Senior guard Sherron Collins is
playing like an All-American, leading the team in scoring at 15.5 points per
game. Collins also leads the team in free throw percentage (84.6 percent) and
in assists (92). Freshman guard Xavier Henry is a perfect backcourt partner
and is tied for the team lead in three-pointers with 42 on the season. The 6-6
youngster is averaging 13.2 points per game and leads the team in steals (40).
Another All-American candidate comes in the form of junior center Cole
Aldrich. He is one of just three Big 12 players to average a double-double
with 11.8 ppg and 10.5 rpg this season. Aldrich also leads the team in blocked
shots at 3.6 per contest. Sophomore forward Marcus Morris rounds things out
with 12.7 ppg and 6.0 rpg. Aldrich was huge in the overtime win at Colorado,
recording his fourth straight double-double with 16 points and 14 rebounds.
Collins matched Aldrich's scoring output with 16 points of his own, while
Morris chimed in with 15.
