Pineiro beats former team, Angels down Mariners

Baseball Betting Lines

07/16/2010 - Anaheim, CA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Joel Pineiro threw seven solid innings to win his seventh straight decision and the Angels got three RBI apiece from Erick Aybar and Bobby Abreu in a 8-3 win over the Seattle Mariners to start the post All-Star break.

Aybar and Jeff Mathis each had three hits and scored twice for Los Angeles, which won for just the second time in eight games. It was a welcome victory considering the Angels reached the break losing eight of last 10 games and entering Thursday had lost three straight series for the first time since 2007.

Pineiro (10-6), who was originally selected by the Mariners in the 12th round of the 1997 amateur draft and spent his first seven big league seasons pitching in Seattle, is unbeaten in his last eight appearances. The right- hander permitted six hits and three runs.

Doug Fister (3-5) was charged with 12 hits and six runs over 5 2/3 frames in losing his fourth consecutive decision.

Ichiro Suzuki extended his season-high hitting streak to 14 games with a three-run double in the fifth inning, but the Mariners lost for the 10th time in 12 games.

The Mariners had the bases full in the fifth inning when Suzuki roped his bases-clearing double to right field, getting the visitors within 4-3. He reached third with one out, but was left there.

Mathis doubled with two down in the sixth and scored on an Aybar base hit. Abreu later grounded a two-run single up the middle for a 7-3 advantage.

Mathis singled in a run in the seventh off new Mariners pitcher Jamey Wright.

Aybar singled to start the bottom of the first and came home on an Abreu doubled to left.

Aybar's two-run base hit and Howie Kendrick's RBI double in the second made it 4-0. Aybar was thrown out at home trying to score on the double as Suzuki made a perfect one-hop throw to the plate.

Game Notes

The Mariners signed Wright on Thursday, one of three roster moves made by the club. Pitcher Chris Seddon also had his contract selected from Triple-A Tacoma, while pitchers Chad Cordero and Sean White were optioned to the same club. Cordero, however, declined his demotion and became a free agent... Friday's starter for the Angels, Jered Weaver, leads the majors with 137 strikeouts. The last Angel pitcher to lead the majors in strikeouts was Nolan Ryan in 1977 (341)...Felix Hernandez, who has a 4-0 mark over his last six efforts, with three complete games in that span, will start Friday for Seattle...The Angels are 8-2 against the Mariners this year.

Dallas Cowboys Super Bowl Odds

Will he or won't he?  Now that the Dallas Cowboys have a new head coach in Wade Phillips, the big question will be: Does Terrell Owens stay with the team.

Jerry Jones continues to suggest that Terrell Owens will remain with the team.

"I've said that he's back, he's here, he's under contract," Jones said. "In the interviews I've just been through (to hire a new coach), it was very clear to me how highly he's thought of and how much of an impact he had on our offensive success."

Just to be sure though, Terrell Owens cleared out his locker and removed his name plate.

Terrell Owens was among the Cowboys most productive players this past season, catching 85 passes for 1,180 yards and a league-best 13 touchdowns.

But T.O. is due a $3 million roster bonus in June, then a $5 million salary this season. Cutting him before then would save a lot of money and headaches.

Aside from the questions surrounding Terrell Owens, the oddsmakers at MySportsbook.com have concerns over starting quarterback Tony Romo's state of mind and whether he will remain a starting quarterback.  It is also not known how players will adjust to new head coach, Wade Phillips.

Here are the football odds as seen at MySportsbook.com and subject to change after February 10, 2007 if not locked in prior to that date.
