Wizards down Celtics in home opener

Basketball Betting Lines

11/05/2006 - Washington, DC (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Gilbert Arenas poured in 44 points and dished out six assists to lead Washington over Boston, 124-117, in its home opener at the Verizon Center.

The All-Star guard finished 14-of-25 from the floor for the Wizards, who bounced back after a tough season opening loss to LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Antawn Jamison added 29 points and eight rebounds for Washington, while Caron Butler deposited 20 points and Antonio Daniels donated 15 off the bench.

Wally Szczerbiak netted 33 points for the struggling Celtics, who lost their third straight game to start the young season. Sebastian Telfair tallied 24 points and handed out six assists while Paul Pierce contributed 23 points, a game-high 12 rebounds and five assists

Down by 10 points entering the final frame, Boston tried to battle back as the game headed toward the stretch. Telfair's twisting layup inside the lane drew the Celtics to within six, 109-103, with 4:40 left.

But, the Wizards scored six of the game's next eight points to get the lead back to double digits. Jamison sandwiched two Pierce free throws with a pair of layups and Arenas drained two free throws on his own to make it a 115-105 game with 3:04 remaining.

Boston had one last run in them. Telfair connected on a long three from the right corner to draw the Celtics to within five, 119-114, with 1:04 showing on the clock.

But, 14 seconds later Butler stemmed the momentum by draining a fade away to make it a 121-114 game and Boston was unable to recover.

The Wizards raced out to a 35-28 advantage after the first 12 minutes and held on to take a slim 58-57 advantage into the locker room.

Washington opened a little breathing room, 98-88, with a 40-point offensive outburst in the third quarter. Arenas highlighted the run-and-gun action with three treys in the frame.

The 2009 AP NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year odds have been released and Denver Broncos' running back Knowshon Moreno has been made the opening favorite.

Bet NFL Sports Lines

Moreno was selected in the first round of April's NFL draft and is expected to carry the rushing load for the Broncos this season. And with Jay Cutler now in Chicago, Moreno might be expected to be Denver's entire offense.

Betting Lines from sports betting lines have made Moreno a 5/2 favorite to win this year's Offensive Rookie of the Year Award. Fellow running back Chris “Beanie” Wells (Arizona Cardinals) is right behind Moreno at 7/2, while Donald Brown (Indianapolis Colts) and receiver Michael Crabtree (San Francisco 49ers) are 5/1 to win. Quarterbacks Mark Sanchez (New York Jets) and Matthew Stafford (Detroit Lions) are 7/1 and 8/1, respectively.

A couple of players who present some value are Josh Freeman, Shonn Green and Darrius Heyward-Bey.

Freeman needs to beat out Byron Leftwich to become the starting quarterback of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers but if he does, he has a lot or raw talent and could use the weapons around him (i.e. Kellen Winslow Jr. and Antonio Bryant) to be very successful in his first season.

Green enters a crowded backfield in New York, but considering both Thomas Jones and Leon Washington are unhappy about their contract situations and might holdout, the former Iowa product could become the Jets' primary back.

Everyone was shocked when Al Davis took Heyward-Bey with the eighth overall pick in April's draft, but the kid has a tremendous amount of talent and if quarterback JaMarcus Russell takes the next step this year, the former Maryland product could blossom. Plus, Heyward-Bey will be looking to prove the people wrong who said Oakland should have taken Michael Crabtree with the No. 8 pick.

And if you're looking for a deep sleeper, check out Pat White at 30/1. He enters the Miami Dolphins vaunted “Wild Cat” offense and could be a big time playmaker.

Matt Kenseth And Kevin Harvick Favorites To Take NASCAR Nextel Cup Championship

(September 15)—The NASCAR season has hit the homestretch with the opening event on this year’s Chase for the Cup taking place this weekend at the Sylvania 300 at New Hampshire International Speedway. With 10 races remaining to determine the Cup Series champion, leading online sportsbook MySportsbook.com today announced odds on all 10 Chase qualifying drivers capturing the NASCAR Sprint Cup Championship.

One of the largest sportsbook sites on the Internet, MySportsbook.com currently lists the top two drivers in the point standings as the early favorites to win the Nextel Cup. Entering the Chase for the Cup with a slim five-point lead in the point standings, 2003 NASCAR champ Matt Kenseth has been made a slight favorite to win his second Cup at 7/2 betting odds. 2001 Cup Rookie of the Year Kevin Harvick has betting odds listed at 5/2 and four-time NASCAR champion Jeff Gordon is listed at 6/1 to capture the Nextel Cup this year.

Hoping to follow in the footsteps of his legendary father who won six NASCAR titles, Dale Earnhardt Jr. stands at 8/1 to breakthrough with his first Cup victory. Staying with the family theme, MySportsbook.com lists 2005 Rookie of the Year Kyle Busch at 14/1 to succeed big brother Kurt’s 2004 NASCAR title. While Kasey Kahne was the final driver to qualify for the Chase with a third place finish last week, the oddsmakers give him a fighting chance at 10/1 mainly due to several mile-and-a-half tracks remaining on the schedule. Despite going winless on the NASCAR circuit this season, Jeff Burton enters the Chase at 5/1 to capture the Cup title. Meanwhile, rookie Denny Hamlin is 4/1 to win the championship, while veteran driver Mark Martin enters the Chase for the Cup as a 15/1 long shot to win his first NASCAR title in his 24th and final season.

MySportsbook.com will offer comprehensive Nascar betting lines on every race remaining on the Nextel Cup series including driver match-ups, props and odds to win each race. For a complete list of NASCAR odds, please visit www.MySportsbook.com.
