Cleveland, OH (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert
released a statement on Monday in regards to Jesse Jackson's reaction to his
open letter to LeBron James last Thursday.
Hours after James announced his decision to leave Cleveland and sign with the
Miami Heat, Gilbert posted an open letter on the Cavaliers' website that
called the superstar's hour-long television special announcing his choice a
"selfish" and a "cowardly betrayal."
The lengthy rant was seen by Jackson as Gilbert having "a slave master
mentality," and said it endangered James and defamed his character.
"I strongly disagree with Rev. Jesse Jackson's recent comments and we are not
going to engage in any related discussion on it." Gilbert said Monday. "Going
forward, we're very excited about the Cavaliers and the positive future of our
region."
Gilbert's actions, however, resulted in a $100,000 fine by the NBA, as per
commissioner David Stern on Monday.
